The sun is shining bright, and beaming hot! I’ve got my sunscreen on and I am ready to go! We arrived around noon and you’d think you were going through TSA security to get in this year! Very thorough.
We are off to fill the Camelback and familiarize ourselves with Chow Town. First on the list: Misterwives. She was fun, very upbeat to get the day going. We wandered over to Perry’s and saw part of Destructo – that will get your heart pumpin’! SO MUCH BASS! Tove Lo was our next act to see. We found a nice little grassy hill to sit on and still see over the crowd. She really had the crowd going!
After Tove Lo, we headed up to Chow Town for the famous Lobster Corndog from Graham Elliot’s tent and made our way north to see a little bit of Hot Chip’s set before Alabama Shakes went on. Who knew Hot Chip had a female drummer!? I like them so much more.
We made our way back across the park for Alabama Shakes and found a spot fairly close. They opened with “Future People,” one of my new favorites from their Sophomore album, Sound and Color. About 3/4 of the way through their set, the PA system went out! The band kept playing like professionals and then they realized no one could hear anything. Thankfully, the crews were able to get the sound back on within a few minutes! I felt so bad, especially since their last Lollapalooza set had been cancelled due to rain and storms. The highlight for Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes came when Paul McCartney invited her on stage to accompany him in “Get Back.”
Sir Paul McCartney, was stunning! I feel so lucky to have seen him perform live. Everything was amazing – lighting, video and vfx, sound, performance was over the top! He played classic songs like Blackbird, Let It Be, Hey Jude (I’m sure people could hear us for miles!), and Being for the Benefit for Mr. Kite. Paul opened the show with a Jimi Hendrix cover using one of Hendrix’s guitars! He told the crowd the stories behind each of the different guitars he played. He also mentioned, “If you are wondering why we are playing with so many instruments, it’s because we have them and we want to show them off!” [YES] Paul sang tribute songs to John and George playing instruments that belonged each of them. My favorite moment was during Live and Let Die when the stage exploded with pyrotechnics!
Here are a few pics from my day yesterday, enjoy!
